Tube Inserts and End Caps

Use tube fittings to get a better finish on your furniture

We all love the convenience of stackable office furniture, but it’s often the finishing touches that really make the difference and can help your furniture stay looking good for longer. Whether it’s adjusting furniture so it’s all the same height, protecting a new floor, or making units easier to move around so you can make the office the space that you need and the style you want, these finishing touches are important.

At BPF Online, we stock everything you need to get the perfect finish on your office and meeting room furniture.

Buffers

Sometimes you need to protect worktops or furniture when they are being stacked or supported, but while stacking is often essential due to space restrictions, there’s always a risk you could damage your new furniture with scratches and scrapes. By using a buffer, you can safely stack your furniture, without having to worry about causing damage.

They don’t have to be glaringly obvious either. Our glass buffers enable you to achieve a classier finish when protecting glass on table tops or cabinet doors. Made from a soft and pliable PVC, these buffers provide the perfect cushioning between glass tabletops or doors to reduce the risk of damage from the structure or from using furniture in a particular way.

If you’re stacking furniture for practicality, check out our stacking buffers. These can discretely make your space more versatile and keep your furniture looking good.

Inserts

it isn’t always practical to leave a tube or chair or desk leg open-ended. The ends can become damaged compromising the structure, they can become sharp, risking damage to flooring, or to users, and they are harder to keep clean. For these situations, we have a series of tube inserts in a wide range of measurements that can be used to protect your furniture, the environment and its users.

We stock both internal fitting inserts which can fit within a tube, and external fittings that fit on the outside of a tube. Internal fittings sit inside the tube of the leg of a desk or chair and give a sleek finish. These internal fittings, sometimes called end plugs are available in round, square, rectangular, or triangular, and come in a variety of different sizes. External insert fittings are conveniently pushed onto the outside of a tube and, for this reason, may not be as aesthetically pleasing, but are easy to fit and extremely practical.

Choosing the right tube insert

Knowing what type of insert can be perplexing, but it really depends on what you need to achieve.

Standard flat head inserts – ideal to cap an end or for tubes 90 degrees to the floor. So, for most flat furniture.

Domed head inserts – these look great and provide an angled insert to reduce the likelihood of things such as clothing, small fingers etc, getting caught in the tube end. It also prevents rubbish from being deposited within the tube ends.

Angled head inserts – Perfect for items that need to be set out at an angle such as a podium, or for splayed legs in furniture with a somewhat more unusual design.

Threaded head inserts – these are only available for internal fittings and are perfect for adding castors, a foot or a glider to your furniture. Threaded internal fitting inserts can hold a castor or glider in place robustly and be discrete at the same time.

Often inserts can be confused with skids and feet, as these also often fit onto or within the tubular legs of desks and chairs. For more information on these, read our blog ‘Threaded Feet or Castors’.
