Exploring the Versatility of Flip-Top Tables

Flip Top Tables are the epitome of versatile table space. And, with the sun finally making an appearance (just in time for those getting away this May bank holiday), it’s time to turn our minds to outdoor events planned for this year.

In recent years we’ve had plenty of reasons for street parties – royal weddings, Jubilee celebrations and a Coronation. We’re used to seeing pictures filled with rows of flip top tables, all brought out of village halls, schools and scout huts for the occasion.

We may not have any official public celebrations to plan for this year, but there are plenty of village fetes, fundraisers, bake sales and book sales, all of which will be entirely dependent on flip top tables to provide an effective outdoor selling space.

Summer isn’t the only season for flip top tables. They’re so versatile that they’re great for indoor events too: christenings, wakes, craft clubs, and even office workspaces, which means they get used throughout the year.

Because so many different groups of people tend to use flip top tables, they can take quite a battering. Therefore, it can be worthwhile just checking your flip top tables once or twice a year to ensure they are working effectively, that there are no broken frames and that brakes and catches are all in perfect working order. Usually, broken tables can be fixed. Occasionally they may need replacing.

What is a flip top table?

A flip top table is a table with a leg on either end. Each leg is supported by two breaking castors. The tabletop is fixed to a central bar that runs between the two legs. When not in use the tabletop can be swivelled 90 degrees on the central bar to allow the tables to slide closely together for easy and space-efficient storage.

As the flip top tables are on castors, it makes pulling them out and sliding them away again really easy – so everyone, from the knitting club to the Beavers can handle setting up the tables.

For more specific uses, we also have height-adjustable flip top tables. This gives all the benefits of a height-adjustable desk and so is perfect for taller people who may need to use the flip top tables for prolonged periods. Yet, it still has all the same easy-storage benefits of a standard flip top table. It extends from 1400mm to 1800mm in height, giving lots of versatility for the taller members of your team or community.

Of course, if you can get away with just repairing your tables, we stock all of the components you need. We stock beam kits from 634mm length to 1643mm length. We also stock 2-piece table top connectors and screws at unbeatable prices, making annual service and repair or retrospective fitting of the table top connectors flip top tables both inexpensive and easy.

And, for the bent or broken footplates, we keep those footplates in 600mm and 800mm in stock too, although the castors come separately. We always recommend braked castors for our flip top tables for safety and stability while in use.
